Crazy For The Storm -- Norman Ollestad This book reminded me of my first and only viewing of the new Star Wars trilogy. The comparison is not because of its technical glitz or creativity. Instead, like Star Wars I was physically and emotionally unable to finish the product! The first and only movie that I walked out of was Star Wars! The first and only book that I was unable to finish was.... Crazy for the Storm! I found myself reading this book the way that I feel during washing dishes after a massive dinner party. You know, the one where your wife wants to show off every single piece of cutlery and dinnerware that eventually makes doing the dishes a never-ending pile where even after 30min there seems to have been no impact! Turning pages in this book felt like marathon projects....so what did I not like? For one, I can do without the numerous details about his mother and father's sex life. Second, OK, Norman suffered a tragic accident that shaped the future of his life. But, so do millions of other people! What made his case so different? Rather than a book, this piece might have been better reserved for a PBS after-school special (minus the gratuitous family sex scenes). The language was bad and the speed was tortoise like. So, was there anything i liked before I quit?......I could slightly relate to the Baja banditos descriptions since I have traveled to Baja in the past. Perhaps like Norman, having a surfing father was somewhat of a connection. But, overall, I tried to give this thing a try. I mean, it should say a lot if I cannot muster the strength to continue reading this book while in route to Indonesia from the USA stuck in a plane (40 hours of travel time...). No offense Norman, I am sure other's liked this book as others must have liked Star Wars too. But, I am forced to give this book only 2 pizza slices out of 10. It should also be stated that these slices are only with tomato paste and no cheese with thin crust.
