Born To Run -- Christopher McDougall First thing first....If you have ever run or if you currently run, you NEED to read this book! Rarely do I get so fired up about non-CIA books, but Born to Run is epic. Some books are a real page turner that cannot be put down. This one is better; you WANT to stop reading to digest the information and style. Rushing through this book is not recommended. Instead, read a few chapters a day then go out and contemplate the characters, the theories, the science, and the passion. Born to Run is an awesome fabric that is perfectly stitched together through tales of mysterious runners, long distance running, biomechanics, footwear technology, zany and fun loving characters, evolution, nutrition, and spirtuality. The beauty of this book is that during and after reading it you are forced to re-evaluate the reason why you do some of the things you do. Whether it is your running style, choice of footwear, genetic connection with the past, or your perception of ultra-distance running, you will most likely rethink your perspecive. McDougall places himself in the context of this book. Rather than reporting from the fringes, he becomes a key figure during its development. For me, one of the most surprising details is the evolution of the running shoe industry and how it perpetuates on mis-information. This book is too good and complete for me to describe through this review. I will say that it already has changed the way i view running and I have already made some significant changes thanks to the insights from the Tarahumana. Unlike many other books that I tend to read, this one ends with a sense of hope. If you run, this book will empower you. Without a doubt, this book not only deserves a whole pie (10 pizza slices out of 10), but is awarded with extra-cheese and two toppings. Do yourself a favor and read it.
